Writer Enrique del Risco recalls the validity of El Bobo de Abela in Cuba today. Abela first published a cartoon of El Bobo in 1926 in the humorous magazine The Week, but it quickly became popular until it reached the Marine Diario until 1934. Abela’s character is a chubby little man, mockery, with four hairs on his head and with a deep look, rogue or lost in the distant. Bobo was characterized by his irony, his comments on the country’s politics through what he shuts up, a way to avoid censorship during the years of Gerardo Machado’s dictatorship.
